We are obsessed with paper and the quality of lighting dispersed by paper. In this case, natural handmade paper made out of banana fiber. We as humans are attracted by the calming effect of repetition, however perfect repetition is mundane and predictable: weaving a little wave of disturbance to the layers of papers has added dynamic value and a signature quirk to our Kentang series. This repetitive movement not only helped to train our manual dexterity, it calms us and put us in a zone where we can de-clutter our mind and let this repetitive technique take the lead in this collection. This works closely with the intrinsic quality of the banana paper to create an alchemy reaction, which we now identify as Ong Cen Kuang’s methodology, thus identity. The shapes are al nods to Noguchi’s lantern curves and natures.
